"The Promise" is a song by the British singer & songwriter Emma Blackery. It is the third track from her second EP, Distance, and was released on July 16, 2013, alongside the EP. It is 4:36 in length and was released under Lukas Records.
After witnessing the many emotionally disturbing tweets of a young girl who was being unpleasant towards Emma on Twitter, she wrote a self-help song for people with mental health issues. Emma first posted an acoustic demo of herself performing "The Promise" and began to ask her fans on whether she should put it on her second EP. Due to the high demand for the song, it was released officially.
The music video for "The Promise" was released on August 7, 2014 and was directed by Fireflight Films. It stars Emma Blackery as herself, performing live throughout the video on a stage. The video follows the story of a young girl (played by Sophie Wright) who appears to be struggling with depression and the troubles within her life. The video also stars Ciare Baxendale, Simon Manley and Kirstie Shapiro.
- Emma has stated in numerous videos that she no longer enjoys performing the song. She has also stated that she went through a phase where she despised the song. Since then, she has made her peace with the song, but refuses to perform it live again.
