"The Promise" is a song by the British singer & songwriter Emma Blackery. It is the third track from her second EP, Distance, and was released on July 16, 2013, alongside the EP. It is 4:36 in length and was released under Lukas Records.

Background[]

After witnessing the many emotionally disturbing tweets of a young girl who was being unpleasant towards Emma on Twitter, she wrote a self-help song for people with mental health issues. Emma first posted an acoustic demo of herself performing "The Promise" and began to ask her fans on whether she should put it on her second EP. Due to the high demand for the song, it was released officially.

Lyrics[]

Today, you don't want to get out of bed
There are so many thoughts in your head
Like you'd be better off dead, better off dead
But let me tell you
There's a whole world waiting for you
It's hard to believe but it's true, whoa oh
So just hold on for me, hold on for me

'Cause I believe if you go
My heart would break, just hold on one more day

Because you are so beautiful, whoa oh
I promise you this, I promise you this
And you are more than capable, whoa oh
Just believe in yourself when nobody else is listening

And I may not even know your name
But I promise you I've felt the same
As you do right now, you'll make it somehow
And even if you feel as though you have no friends
Except the blade that cuts your skin
You're better than this, you're worth more than this

And I believe if you go my heart would break
Just hold on one more day

Because you are so beautiful, whoa oh
I promise you this, I promise you this
And you are more than capable, whoa oh
Just believe in yourself when nobody else is listening

And If you go I think my heart would break
And if you go I think my heart would break
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yea

Because you are so beautiful, whoa oh
I promise you this, I promise you this
And you are more than capable, whoa oh
Just believe in yourself when nobody else is listening
You are so beautiful whoa oh
I promise you this, I promise you this
And you are more than capable, whoa oh
Just believe in yourself when nobody else is listening
